Self Reflection

My Ambulatory care rotation was at NAO Medical Hicksville and it was a great experience. I already had an interest in possibly working in Urgent care as per diem shifts and this rotation made me even more interested. There is a mix in the acuity of cases that present from URIs to even a patient presenting with an MI during one of my shifts. This variety of patients allowed me to learn how to treat patients in an effective way where they feel satisfied with their care. I was mainly with a PA during my time at NAO medical and I learned a lot about the scope of practice of a PA in urgent care and appreciated their autonomy. The PA was responsible for making majority of the decisions and providing care to the patients and if there were any questions that he had, he had a doctor on call who he can reach on the phone. I was able to learn a lot of clinical skills through my time here and was able to learn how to do it in a timely manner as well. I feel as if I feel more comfortable in uncomfortable environments and can definitely still improve a lot. I look forward to using the skills I learned in this rotation in my next one: Family Medicine.
