My Ambulatory care rotation site evaluator was PA Fahim Sadat and I learned a lot from his feedback. He emphasized the importance of discharge instructions to patients who are receiving any medication along with supportive care. This was something that I learned but realized is really important as a healthcare providing the best possible care to patients. For example, for warm compresses, PA Sadat asked me to explain how I told the patient the instructions on how to use it. He said rather than just telling the patient to grab a warm cloth and use that, tell them to boil an egg and wrap it in a cloth and put on affected eyelid. PA Sadat also gave feedback regarding the importance of documenting everything due to possibilities of law suits. My classmate had a case of cellulitis in the foot and he said even if the patient has had a tetanus shot in the past 10 years, you must still have it documented in the chart. Overall, this site visit was a great learning experience and I look to use PA Sadat’s advice in my future rotations and when I begin practicing as a PA.
